We have put together this home learning package to guide you step by step through a series of progressively more complex learning topics that begin with key word signing (single signs per sentence) up to full grammar and linguistics lessons

The Package is divided into 3 volumes:

 

Volume 1 - Auslan for beginners and children

You will start with basic topic based vocab learning, Farm animals for example, followed by a descriptive vocab group, like colours. 

You then have what are called Bring-It-Together topics that join the previous 1-3 topics into simple sentences.

In this way you progressively worth through each of the following learning areas using

  • online video play throughs and
  • online game play to practice the vocab.
  • Flashcard sets by topic that reflect the same signs covered within the course material, and
  • a reference dictionary that includes the same topics
  • Online based songs and stories that put the vocabulary into practice.

Volume 2 - For intermediate communication

The extensive class plan is 443 pages and includes everything you need to progress through the learning topics through on and off line learning models.

The goal within these lessons is not just vocab building but also to explore linguistic concepts  and really embark on information exchange and communication.

Every section includes a reference dictionary and tips on teaching/learning those signs, activities to use to reinforce the signs in a fun and engaging way. Every third section is a Bring-It-Together topic, that draws a naming topic with adjectives and verbs to extend communication, and introduce grammar and linguistics in a context.
Gradually moving the participants from naming everyday objects and people, to more complex communication

Specifically:

  • Practice describing animals using 5-8 descriptors, inc. the use of the negative’ preposition.
  • Use simple recipes in Auslan  only as a path to food based communication.
  • Practice describing family members in detail, including physical appearance, age and relationship to self.
  • Explored formal vs informal communication for the first time, and looked at signing space and exaggeration

Volume 3 - Advanced communication and linguistic concepts

Within the teaching guide you will find a lesson by lesson programs with enough time flexibility to accommodate slower or faster progress with all the information and notes you need to work through these stages into full Auslan communication in linguistic structure in a complex way.

There are theory and practical activities, assignments and exercises to reinforce learning as you go.
